Message After having my Z in storage for 4 years, I had it towed to my usual mechanic to get it up and running again. $1800 later I drove it about 6 miles before the engine overheated. I parked it overnight. Added more coolant. (Loose radiator hose clamp.) Drove it another 6 miles and it started stalling.
Had it towed back to mechanic. After some diagnosis he decided there was a problem with the valves. I decided to pull the heads and have them re-worked at the same time.

Mechanic calls me a few weeks ago, says pulling the heads is beyond his skill level; recommends sending it to another place in town that specializes in Nissans. I tell him go for it.

The new place has it for a few days and they call me with the bad news: bent valves at a minimum. The guy tells me he can pull the heads, re-work them, possibly replace at least one burnt piston, give me new valves, etc etc etc. But he doesn't recommend doing that because he's seen several times cars in almost identical situations where after doing all that they run okay but they smoke. He recommends a new motor to the tune of around $7000 (including labor & incidentals.)

I just can't see spending that much on the car when that's probably all it's worth in good condition at this point. So... what are y'all's thoughts?

I asked if he wanted to help me part it out; he said maybe somebody in the area might be looking for a good project car. At this point if I can get $2500+ for it I guess I'd be happy. (Well, I'd be happy if it was running, but it may be the best I can do.) 8(
